Promoting Panda Cloud Antivirus at my school?

Heya,
Since their antivirus is somewhat similar to norton, i was thinking i would go and ask the PC-guy to remove all of the norton wannabe's and install PCA. But now my problem is, you will need to login, and there are somewhat around 150+ (Dont know how much exactly, could be 300+) PC's at our school (campus), so how will this be fixed with the logins if the deal is on?
Thx in advance

Panda Cloud Antivirus is not only free for home users. It's also free for education. In order to install it into multiple PCs, simply create an account and install into all PCs using the same account.

Maxim,
I'm very curious to see how you made out last week with PCA?
I'm the comp sys coordinator at a school with about 100 computers.
I'm looking for alternatives to our current system but have not yet found one (until now?).
That said, I cannot seem to find much documentation on how PCA works. I got the jist of needing to setup one account for the school then using it to download and install on all the nodes. But how does it all tie together?
I also read that it is free for personal and non-profit use (my school holds US 501c3 standing) so this is really why I'm interested.
Can someone point me to the posted TOS for PCA?
I will confess that I'm a bit nervous to use software which is... uh... so young.

Hello knme,
you can find the EULA in the installation directory, called license.rtf.
Regarding "how does it all tie together", the answer is it doesn't. Panda Cloud Antivirus is a stand-alone application. So you won't have all the bells and whistles of a network-managed solution. We do have a similar solution for networks but its not free, it's called Panda Cloud Protection ( http://cloudprotection.pandasecurity.com).
Regarding the technology being young, it's really not that young. We had the first pilot of this technology out in 2007. In 2008 we integrated it into our normal consumer products. And early in 2009 is when we release the first beta of Panda Cloud Antivirus, which has had millions of beta testers before releasing into 1.0.

Thanks for the reply pbust.
I think it is starting to make sense. If I install the "free antivirus" on all our nodes will they work together to propagate virus updates? Or is that only available in the cloud protection?

That's only available in the Cloud Protection ( http://cloudprotection.pandasecurity.com) version which is for networks. In that offering the updates propagate also via P2P between nodes.

Thanks again for the info.
I was looking around and could not find any info about the price of Panda Cloud Protection.
Free is hard to argue but if the features are more robust in PCP then I'd like to give it a thought.

Pedro,
Did you say this out loud? On the internet even?
Panda Cloud Antivirus is not only free for home users. It's also free for education.
I know people that would be very interested in that.

Hi Knme.
Free is hard to argue but if the features are more robust in PCP then I'd like to give it a thought.
I work for a college and have about 100 computers that I'm responsible for as well. I'm very interested in this PCP, but I know how hard it is to pry money from those cheapskates upstairs. I'd present the anti-virus solution, and mention the other options available from Panda as well as competing companies. Free they'll take right away, the rest you can work on.
You didn't mention how old your students are, but there are laws here in the US that say we have to protect "underage" students from all dangers, including those on the internet. That's impossible, but Panda Cloud Antivirus comes pretty darn close.
BTW, I've worked for the College for almost 22 years. If they listen to me, shouldn't your school board?

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the comments. Yes, our school board is very involved with our school and has the safety of the kids foremost at their mind.
That said, due to the size of our school, cost would play a factor.
Do I need to contact PS to get an estimate/quote on the cost of PCP?
Thanks again!

PS - I've deployed PCA v1.0 to three computers for a trial period. Should this run smoothly I will begin a mass rollout. The only two features I find lacking presently are the ability to schedule a full system scan and to scan USB's on connect. I've heard the former might be added in v1.1.

You don't have to do scans, knme. Everyone stops them as soon as they start because it slows down their computer, so what's the point? Panda got rid of them. The scans weren't part of the solution, they were part of the problem. They weren't being done, which makes a computer insecure.
Cloud AV doesn't have to update, scan, none of that boring stuff. As a network administrator, you'll appreciate the ease of use. It's set-it-and-forget-it. Do you have people that call you and say, "I got a pop-up that said to do this. Should I?" I tell them to go ahead, no matter what. It keeps me in a job.
Panda doesn't ask, it knows. You won't be getting those calls anymore.
As far as sales of PCP go, Pedro, do I still get 10%?

Hi Pedro. I´m glad to know that I can use PCA at my school. I will use the same account (as you said) on 30 computers, but the school board is a little bit resilient about the free use of PCA. May you tell where I can find some documentation proving that is ok to use this software without legal consequences?
Thanks.
